I come here every now and then when I want to pull hard on crimps. Its really the best gym in Montreal for that, I find. Small, but a treat during off-peak hours especially. The training area post reno is really sick. Route reading takes some adjusting to, but the quality is high. Certainly hard. I appreciate that this place feels like it has a soul (and the writings on the wall).
The climbing itself is excellent, well set routes and a good atmosphere for training. However, I was disappointed to see political messaging displayed throughout the gym. I come to climb specifically to disconnect, focus, and clear my head. Seeing political content in a recreational space took away from that experience. This isn’t about agreeing or disagreeing with any cause, it’s about keeping a space neutral and inclusive for people who come here for mental and physical well-being. I hope the gym considers keeping the focus on climbing rather than politics
Came for a climb while visiting the area and was immediately in love with this climbing gym!! Interesting & well thought out routes and great additional workout gear — but honestly more importantly: everyone was so friendly, supportive and the sense of community was imbedded in the structure of the space. I wish my local climbing gym was like Shakti! I will be coming back the next time I’m in Montréal.
Woohoo I love you Shakti!!!!! This gym is inclusive, friendly and truly unique. It’s me favourite gym in Montreal and let me tell you why: 1. The owners and employees are friendly 2. The problems are interesting and challenging 3. It feels like a community, not just a bunch of people in a room together I’ve met people at the gym who taught me how to climb outdoors, belay, encouraged me to get better and give me tips to work on! When I first climbed here, it’s thanks to the friendly regulars that I wanted to keep on going even when it was hard!
Super friendly gym, small but it packs a punch with plenty of blocs. The tape / colour system is hard to follow though, a serious brain workout!
Having climbed/lived in 4 different countries, visited countless Boulder gyms and loads of outdoor trips, I can confidently say there is NO place like Shakti. Heaven on earth! They will make you feel like a million bucks even if you’re starting out or you’re a seasoned veteran. Leave your ego at the door, climbing at shakti is like climbing outdoors you will work hard but have fun doing it. I miss this gym everyday and am grateful for the life long friends I’ve made through the community here. 🤗
Makes Montreal feel like home for sure. Appreciate what y'all have created Shakti! In terms of climbing, the routes are interesting, and the grading is challenging relative to other gyms. Keeps you coming back for more 💪 lots of gym social events as well! Love this place.
More than a climbing gym… one of a kind institution. Philippe and Lacey have created such a beautiful community for climbers that’s been my safe haven for more than a year now. The standards for hard boulders are high… like really high! Shakti reminds you every time why climbing is so amazing. So many high quality boulders, training area, kilter board, friendly comps with delicious food, coffee, crack wall, the most incredible people, and still the cheapest gym in town… please take my money!
