I attend spin classes every week with Scott and Jacques on Mondays and Wednesdays, and they are really excellent. I never miss these classes because the energy, motivation, and structure are always on point. Today they even hosted a special class together, which was fantastic. I really appreciate both of them and the great experience they consistently provide.
Overall, the staff is alright. However, there is one staff member, Theresa, who is generally rude. She constantly flirts with guys much younger than her which I find very uncomfortable to see and inappropriate due to her old age. I notice she constantly comments on a lot of the female clients and is unpleasant with girls. It makes my sessions in the conditioning room very discomforting. It's not a one time thing either. Every time I go, it's always the same thing. I find how she tries to "help" the guys very disturbing especially the touching. It does ruin my experience there and I try very hard to avoid working out when I can semi-guess her schedule.
I am having a nice experience at the zumba class with Anabel. She is professional and she teaches new moves of new songs at the beginning which is so helpful and makes it easier to learn. She designs the dance routines based on the students’ level, and the dance musics are mostly trendy, that I really like🤩
Paying for a membership mostly for cycling classes. About a quarter of their bikes in the cycling room don’t work. Beyond that, one has no access to those bikes outside of 1 hr classes (no longer 7 days a week). Finally two similar bikes are freely available upstairs - only 1 works. I guess this is how they keep their fees low
Most of the counsellors are friendly, but keep in mind they are just teenagers. When it comes down to there being a safety issue with your child, they will pass the buck until there is no one left to blame but yourself for trusting in a team that should not have any responsibility for anyone’s children. My child slipped in the pool change room and hit his head on the floor one afternoon. When I picked him up he was not ok; he couldn’t put his shoes on, he could barely talk, he couldn’t follow simple instructions, he had a headache, and fell asleep as soon as I put him in the car. Before I left with him, I asked if something had happened to him and no one said anything. I chalked it up to dehydration. No one informed me that he hit his head until the next morning when I asked his counsellor if they could ensure he drinks more water so he not get dehydrated. The. Next. Morning. He had a concussion, and he went to sleep moments after I picked him up… The negligence is unreal. If you must send your child here, and if one day you pick them up and they don’t seem ok, ask everyone you can about what happened because they are so beyond disorganized with incident reporting it’s horrifying. I will never send either of my children here ever again, and I highly recommend that you don’t either.
Yesterday I found my 7 year-old daughter at pick-up from this YMCA Summer Camp left alone at the park. The whole camp had left the park leaving her behind by herself. It was + 30° C with lots of heat and sun, my daughter didn't have any more water was thirsty, freighted and lost talking to strangers. This was not an isolated event, she had been left dripping wet inside an air conditioned room and was denied going to the bathroom to change her clothes, among other incidents. The Summer Camp team lacks training, maturity and mostly lacks common sense. This team is not prepared to be left with the responsibility of taking care of groups of young children. If you care about your child's well-being beware of this place. Presently considering taking legal action against the YMCA.
I joined the Westmount YMCA to swim and do aqua fitness. My only complaint is that the water is quite frigid. Is there anything that can be done to warm it up a few degrees?
I travel a lot and go to the gym everywhere I go. The Y gym is a little outdated but clean, organized and well maintained despite the age of the equipment. It meets the needs of the beginner and the experienced gymnasts. Also the members are courteous and respectful. I recommend it.
