Tchaikovsky is the GOAT. Tears almost dropped when the trombone hits at the start of the waltz of the flowers. Loved their choreography and staging too - very on point, and shows the mastery of expressing the vibes without explicitly telling the story. Flawless execution overall. I'm so glad we went, and so sad Tchaikovsky couldn't live to this day to see this.
I’ve only seen a small theatre performance of the Nutcracker, so this was a special treat. Brought my teenage daughter and she really enjoyed it. We loved the music, the costumes, the dance. All of it was incredible. The only thing is that the theatre was uncomfortably warm. Other than that, a wonderful experience. If you have the opportunity to go, I highly recommend it.
The presented show (Nutcracker) can only be called a ballet with considerable reservation. It is rather a dance performance with simplified elements of ballet, mainly in the second part. One of the biggest mistakes was the substitution of the cultural code of Hoffmann’s and Tchaikovsky’s original work with fake narratives of a political context. The Prince/Nutcracker is a German boy from a bourgeois European family of the early 19th century. You broke this. The person chosen to replace the main performer has no relation to the story and represents a falsification of it, as well as a disregard both for the audience and for Hoffmann and Tchaikovsky. Moreover, it was very noticeable that, in the name of “inclusivity,” other aspects of the corps de ballet also suffered — professional dancers were replaced by individuals whose qualifications were unclear. This was evident in their inability to perform even the simplest elements of an already simplified choreography, as well as in clear de-synchronization in the dancing and incorrect positioning on stage. In short, it was terrible. I had to come home and urgently re-watch a proper version of the ballet that I downloaded during the COVID period, when ARTE offered free broadcasts.
Nutcracker performance was exceptional, though the seating comfort and temperature took away from the experience
Great scenarios, a tremendous group of dancers but the best is awesome music live! Thank you very much for the efforts for each and every one of the gran ballet! 🌷
Great experience! Every aspect was a labor of love for the whole team and it shows, whether it's costumes, decor, choreography or music. Can't recommend enough.
Amazingly, the GBC is Presently one of the best Ballet companies in the world, an unbelievable Achievement for a company that was barely an average one a few years ago. I have been a subscriber at the ballets canadiens for 30 years. I am also a follower of the Moscow ‘s Bolshoi and the Royal Ballet in London I have two comments to make regarding the Grands Ballets Canadiens: 1- the GBC was generally an average ballet company till about two years ago when the caliber of the star dancers and stage direction improved unexpectedly to an impressive level that now , and for the first time, pus the Grands Ballets Canadiens among the top international ballet groups. BRAVO 2- There is however one ballet, the nutcracker, where the GBC the amazingly stunning sets ( by Horne) and the beautiful costumes ( by Barbeau ) are the words bests…and by far 3- please limit the modern ballet versions!. The traditional ballet is still your strong point and the most popular with your followers. For example, the latest Tchaikovsky’s Don Quichote ( May 2025) performance was truly Bolshoi’s level, both for the female principal dancers as well as the male ones( this one used to be the weakest spot of the GBC before)
Nutcracker ballet show was such a blast ! Two hours of beautiful dancing, eye-catching outfits, and enjoyable stories delivered through music and dance performances.
